We were very excited that Matt Simms, President of Simms Electronics was one of two speakers who kicked off the Internet of Things West Michigan Meetup group. The group was formed as a way for technology professionals, weekend warriors and tech geeks to get together to discuss all things IoT and understand more about what it takes to launch a product to the cloud.
Matt delivered a top view presentation of what is takes to create a connected product and what the potential is for companies that are bringing connected devices to market. He showcased some of the communication modules that Simms has integrated into IoT products for several customers and shared his experience using the different types of wireless and wired data porting methods. May of the participants had dabbled with IoT applications using hobby boards such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino so Matt's presentation sparked off many great questions and discussions of the best methods of turning dumb devices into smart ones.
We were very grateful to have had the opportunity to kick off the IoT West Michigan group. If you live in the Grand Rapids metro area and would like to attend future IoT events, check out the Internet of Things West Michigan page on Meetup. Thank you to GR Makers HQ for hosting the event, Mutually Human for coordinating the space and to all who attended. We look forward to future events! Here's what people said:
